WWE SmackDown Results and Highlights (21/08/26)
WWE Friday Night SmackDown heads to the Scotiabank Centre in Toronto, Canada, for its August 21 episode, with the blue brand preparing for a stacked night of championship action and major developments. The biggest attraction will be a highly anticipated Undisputed WWE Championship showdown between two bitter rivals Kevin Owens and CM Punk, with the personal animosity between the competitors adding even more intensity to an already important title fight. With the championship on the line, the Toronto crowd is set for what could be one of the most explosive encounters of the night.
The episode will also feature another championship match, giving fans even more stakes throughout the show. Adding to the excitement, Blake Monroe is finally set to make her long-awaited SmackDown debut in the ring, marking an important first chapter for the rising star on WWE’s Friday night brand. Between title fights, heated rivalries, and Monroe’s arrival, WWE has plenty of reasons for fans to tune in as SmackDown continues building momentum toward its upcoming storylines and major events.
Opening Segment
Backstage, Sami Zayn pleaded with Nick Aldis to add him to the Undisputed WWE Championship match, pointing out that he deserves the opportunity in his home country. Randy Orton soon appeared as Cody Rhodes called him to the ring through a nearby television. Aldis warned both men that any physical confrontation would cost them future title opportunities. Orton promised he would not jeopardize his championship chance and reminded Cody that he came dangerously close to hitting him with a chair. He insisted that while Cody may be the “American Nightmare,” he is not the man destined to end the Legend Killer.
Cody responded by reminding Orton of their history, including the chair attack and the brutal WrestleMania encounter. He said he has learned from everyone around him, including Orton, and knows exactly what it takes to become the man who ends a legend. Cody then looked beyond their upcoming match, declaring that even if Orton becomes champion, he will eventually return to face him again. The American Nightmare finished with a bold warning: he will be the one to kill the Legend Killer, calling it not a prediction, but a spoiler.
Tama Tonga and Tala Tonga vs Damien Pries and R-Truth (WWE Tag-Team Championship)
The match began with Damian Priest and Tama Tonga exchanging heavy right hands before Priest gained control with a big boot and brought R-Truth into the action. The unlikely duo briefly worked together to send both Tonga brothers outside, with Truth diving over the ropes onto Tama while Priest drove Tala into the barricade. However, The Tongas eventually isolated Truth and turned the tide. After the commercial break, Priest battled back with a top-rope clothesline before Tala Tonga survived the pin attempt and fought his way back into the match. R-Truth then exploded with shoulder tackles, the “You Can’t See Me” taunt, a Five Knuckle Shuffle and an AA, but Tala broke up the cover. The chaos continued as Priest took the fight outside, only for Tama to knock him from the apron and Tala to deliver a chokeslam onto it. Truth nearly caught Tama with a roll-up, but Tama kicked out before hitting a swinging neckbreaker. With Priest down, the Tonga brothers hit their devastating Red Cross High-Low combination on Truth, allowing Tala Tonga to score the three-count. Despite the loss, Priest showed his respect for Truth after the match, returning to the ring and embracing his tag team partner.
Blake Monroe vs Giulia
As Giulia made her way toward the ring, Blake Monroe blindsided her from behind, immediately making her presence felt on SmackDown. Monroe viciously drove Giulia into the ring steps before tossing her inside and following her into the ring, where she delivered the Neutralizer. Blake’s music then hit as she confidently walked away, making it clear that she believes she is destined for the very top. While heading backstage, Monroe declared herself “world championship material” and insisted that Giulia is nowhere near her level, warning that she has no intention of wasting her time on someone she considers beneath her.
Tiffany Stratton vs Lash Legend
Tiffany Stratton and Lash Legend went to war from the opening bell, with Tiffany starting quickly with a dropkick before Lash overpowered her with a right hand and a thunderous bodyslam. Lash maintained control with a bear hug and attempted to catch Tiffany with a clothesline, but the champion countered with a backstabber that sent Lash to the outside. Tiffany attempted a suicide dive, only for Lash to catch her in mid-air and send her crashing into the ring post. Lash followed with a suplex and tried to capitalize with an elbow drop, but Tiffany moved out of the way and fired back with right hands and a stunner. Tiffany then went for a Swanton from the top rope, but Lash avoided the impact before countering a Big Boot attempt. Tiffany nearly stole the victory with a roll-up, but Lash kicked out and eventually knocked Tiffany off the top rope before hitting the devastating Lash Extension for the three-count.
The situation became even more chaotic after the match when Nia Jax stormed into the ring and dropped Tiffany with a leg drop. Nia and Lash then joined forces to punish the champion, leaving Tiffany in serious trouble as the two powerhouses continued their assault. Just when it appeared Tiffany was about to be overwhelmed, Chelsea Green rushed to the ring carrying a kendo stick. Chelsea immediately swung away at both Nia and Lash, forcing them to retreat to the outside and putting an end to the two-on-one attack. The shocking loss and post-match assault leave Tiffany Stratton with plenty of problems heading into the next chapter of her championship reign.
CM Punk vs Kevin Owens (WWE Undisputed Championship)
What a freaking fantastic match! CM Punk and Kevin Owens delivered an absolutely chaotic, hard-hitting war that spilled all over ringside. Owens dominated early with heavy right hands, clotheslines, chops, a cannonball and a frog splash from the barricade, while Punk constantly found ways to fight back. Owens even hit a Swanton from the top rope, but Punk refused to stay down, eventually answering with a running knee, clothesline, top-rope elbow and the Anaconda Vise. Owens escaped and nearly caught Punk in the Sharpshooter, but Punk reached the ropes. Things completely broke down when both men accidentally took out the referee, allowing Owens to hit a Stunner and Punk to respond with a GTS, but there was no official to make the count.
Sami Zayn then stormed into the action, attacking Punk and throwing him into the ring post before helping Owens get the referee back inside. Owens hit another Stunner and seemed destined to win, but Punk kicked out. Zayn grabbed the championship and handed it to Owens, who refused to win through cheating and instead gave the title back to Zayn. Zayn shockingly smashed Owens with the championship, allowing Punk to hit the GTS and secure the victory. Punk barely had time to celebrate before Zayn returned and attacked both men with the title, repeatedly smashing Punk while accusing him of stealing the championship from him. An incredible match followed by an even more shocking betrayal Sami Zayn has clearly made his intentions known.
Other Notable Moments from the Show
– Randy Orton interrupted CM Punk and, before getting to business, took a moment to appreciate Punk’s impressive physique, acknowledging the hard work the former World Champion has clearly put in. Orton then shifted to a more serious tone, giving Punk a fair warning that after he defeats Cody Rhodes in front of his family, he will set his sights on championship history and come for a record-breaking 15th World Championship. The Legend Killer made it clear that Punk could eventually find himself standing in his way before walking off. Punk, unfazed by the warning, simply said he looks forward to it, teasing a potential blockbuster showdown between two of WWE’s most iconic stars.
– Backstage, Chelsea Green approached Tiffany Stratton and promised to make up for what happened the previous week, but Tiffany urged her not to get involved tonight and risk jeopardizing her championship reign. Their conversation was interrupted by Paige, who praised Chelsea and told her she should be proud of herself. Fatal Influence then arrived and questioned why Chelsea would listen to someone who has struggled to hold onto championship gold. Paige fired back by admitting that she misses having a title around her waist and boldly declared that she intends to change that by winning the United States Championship. With her intentions now crystal clear, Paige left alongside Fatal Influence, setting up a potential new threat to Tiffany Stratton’s title reign.
– Trick Williams made his way to the ring alongside Lil Yachty and immediately made it clear that while he had his friend back, he still hadn’t reclaimed his championship. Trick accused Baron Corbin of avoiding a one-on-one fight and mocked his bald appearance, daring him to come out and take a “Trick Shot.” Corbin eventually arrived on a motorcycle, with Lil Yachty stepping out of the ring as Trick confronted his longtime rival and demanded another title opportunity. Corbin dismissed the idea, reminding Trick that he had already beaten him twice and insisting that Trick had nothing left to offer him. After Corbin refused to fight, Lil Yachty struck him with a kendo stick, allowing Trick to clothesline him to the floor. Corbin then turned the situation into a challenge of his own, agreeing to face Trick at Sunday Night’s Main Event but only if Yachty survives a five-minute match against him first. Corbin declared that if Yachty can last the full five minutes, Trick gets his championship opportunity, but if Corbin wins, Trick’s pursuit of the title is over for good. Yachty accepted the challenge, prompting Corbin to ominously warn him that those five minutes would feel like the longest of his life.
– A new video package featuring Shinsuke Nakamura revealed a major surprise as the Japanese star announced that he had finally found his tag team partner. Nakamura introduced Kyoki, who was revealed to be none other than NJPW standout Hiromu Takahashi, marking his long-awaited WWE debut under a new name. Kyoki spoke about his journey competing around the world and explained that his next chapter will now take place alongside Nakamura in WWE. The unexpected arrival of the highly decorated Japanese wrestler instantly adds another dangerous and unpredictable force to the tag team division, with Nakamura and Kyoki potentially forming a formidable partnership.
