Netflix Begins Production on Dan Brown’s The Secret of Secrets Series — Morgan Spector’s Robert Langdon Gets His First Look
The next chapter of Robert Langdon’s story is officially coming to Netflix.
Production has begun in Prague on Netflix’s upcoming adaptation set in the world of Dan Brown’s bestselling thriller The Secret of Secrets. The currently untitled series stars Morgan Spector as Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon and Rebecca Hall as scientist Katherine Solomon.
Netflix has also released the first official behind-the-scenes look at the two leads in character, giving fans their first real glimpse at what this new version of Langdon will look like on screen.
A New Robert Langdon Is Finally Here
For years, Tom Hanks was the face most audiences associated with Robert Langdon after playing the character in the film adaptations of The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons and Inferno.
Netflix is now handing the iconic Harvard professor to Morgan Spector, best known for The Gilded Age and The Plot Against America.
Spector will portray Langdon as he becomes caught in another international mystery involving ancient forces, scientific discoveries and a race against time. Netflix describes the series as combining futuristic science with mystical lore — a combination that fits naturally into Brown’s world of puzzles, symbols and historical secrets.
And this time, Langdon’s journey is heading to television rather than the big screen.
Rebecca Hall Plays Katherine Solomon
Alongside Spector is Rebecca Hall, who plays Katherine Solomon.
Katherine is a scientist whose disappearance sets the central mystery in motion. Langdon must find her while also attempting to recover a groundbreaking manuscript containing discoveries that could fundamentally change humanity’s understanding of the human mind.
But Katherine isn’t simply another person Langdon needs to rescue.
The series is reportedly giving Langdon something audiences haven’t really seen from him before: a serious romantic relationship.
Showrunner Carlton Cuse has described Katherine and Langdon’s relationship as an important evolution for the character, potentially allowing the series to explore a more personal side of the famously analytical professor.
That could give this adaptation a very different emotional dynamic from the previous Langdon movies.

Trying to fit all of that into a two-hour movie can be difficult.
Carlton Cuse believes television offers an opportunity to give Brown’s storytelling more room. The new series is being developed as an eight-hour story, allowing the mystery to unfold at a much larger scale than a conventional feature film.
That could potentially make the new Langdon adaptation feel less rushed.
Instead of jumping from clue to clue, the series can spend more time establishing the characters, developing the mystery and allowing individual discoveries to have greater impact.

Netflix announced five additional recurring cast members as production got underway: Mamoudou Athie, Ben Levi Ross, Anamaria Marinca, Richard Sammel and Elena Saurel.
With that ensemble, it appears Netflix is building a fairly extensive world around Langdon rather than treating him as the only important character.
Prague Becomes Langdon’s New Playground
One of the most exciting elements of the production is its location.
Prague plays a major role in the story, and Netflix has begun filming there rather than simply using another location to double for the Czech capital.
That is significant because Brown’s story makes extensive use of Prague’s historic architecture and atmosphere.
The city’s medieval streets, churches, bridges and historic landmarks provide exactly the kind of visual environment that a Robert Langdon mystery needs.
The first production image already gives viewers a taste of that atmosphere, with Spector and Hall walking through the historic city together.
Dan Brown Is Directly Involved
This isn’t simply a Netflix adaptation made without the original author.
Dan Brown is co-creating and executive producing the series alongside Carlton Cuse, who serves as showrunner, writer and executive producer.
That’s potentially one of the most important differences between this project and a typical book adaptation.
Brown’s involvement means the television version is being developed directly with the creator of Robert Langdon and the world surrounding him.
Cuse, meanwhile, brings extensive television experience from projects including Lost, Bates Motel, Locke & Key and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.
It’s a combination that makes the project particularly interesting.
From The Da Vinci Code to a New Era
Robert Langdon first appeared in Dan Brown’s 2000 novel Angels & Demons before becoming a global phenomenon through The Da Vinci Code.
Brown eventually expanded the character’s story through The Lost Symbol, Inferno, Origin and, most recently, The Secret of Secrets, published in 2025.
The new Netflix series therefore isn’t rebooting an old movie storyline.
Instead, it’s bringing Brown’s newest Langdon adventure to television.
That distinction should allow Netflix to establish its own visual and storytelling identity around the character.
When Will the Series Premiere?
This is where fans will need to be patient.
Netflix has not announced an official release date yet.
Production has only just begun in Prague, meaning the series still has filming and post-production ahead of it.
For now, Netflix is keeping the project officially untitled, although it is based on The Secret of Secrets.
So don’t expect a premiere date just yet.
What Makes This Adaptation Different?
The biggest change isn’t Morgan Spector replacing Tom Hanks.
It’s the format.
A television series can give Robert Langdon’s world substantially more breathing room. The story can introduce clues gradually, spend more time with supporting characters and allow the mystery to develop over multiple episodes.
And with Brown himself involved, fans have plenty of reason to be curious about whether Netflix can capture the combination of intellectual puzzles, historical intrigue and blockbuster suspense that made the Langdon books so popular.
Spector also has a difficult task ahead of him.
He isn’t simply playing another Harvard professor.
He’s stepping into a character who has already been strongly associated with Tom Hanks for nearly two decades.
The good news?
Spector doesn’t need to imitate Hanks.
He needs to create his own Langdon.
And these first images suggest Netflix is taking that approach.
Our Take
The first look at The Secret of Secrets doesn’t reveal much — and that’s probably intentional.
But there’s something promising about seeing Morgan Spector and Rebecca Hall together against Prague’s historic backdrop.
The ingredients are certainly there: a mysterious manuscript, missing scientist, ancient secrets, scientific discoveries, Prague, a new Robert Langdon and an eight-episode format.
If Netflix allows the mystery to breathe rather than rushing through the story, this could become the definitive screen adaptation of the Langdon formula.
And unlike the previous movies, the series has the opportunity to make Robert Langdon feel like a fully developed television protagonist rather than simply a man who arrives whenever an ancient puzzle needs solving.
For now, the mystery is only beginning.
