A New Silent Hill Reboot May Be Coming From the Producer Behind Resident Evil
A new nightmare may be taking shape in Silent Hill.
According to a recent Wall Street Journal profile of producer Roy Lee, the filmmaker is working on a new project based on Konami’s iconic psychological-horror franchise. Lee is one of the producers behind Zach Cregger’s recently released Resident Evil reboot, making the news particularly interesting for fans of video-game adaptations.

However, there’s a major caveat: the new Silent Hill project is still extremely early, and many of its details remain unknown.
Who Is Behind the New Silent Hill Project?
Roy Lee has spent more than two decades producing major Hollywood projects, particularly horror and adaptations of established properties.
His producing credits include The Ring, The Grudge, It, The Lego Movie, A Minecraft Movie and several other high-profile projects. He has also become increasingly involved in bringing video-game properties to film and television.
Most recently, Lee produced Zach Cregger’s new Resident Evil movie alongside Cregger and several other producers. Sony’s official listing confirms Lee as one of the film’s producers.
That connection makes his involvement with Silent Hill especially notable.
Is This Definitely a Silent Hill Movie?
That’s still unclear.
The Wall Street Journal report describes Silent Hill as one of approximately 20 video-game-related movies and television projects that Lee has in development or production.
Other reports have described the project specifically as a new Silent Hill film, but there has been no official announcement confirming the format, studio, director, writer, cast or release date.
So, for now, the safest way to describe it is as a new Silent Hill project in development, rather than a fully announced movie.
Why the Timing Is Interesting
The news arrives only months after Return to Silent Hill, the latest movie adaptation of the franchise.
The original Silent Hill movie arrived in 2006, followed by Silent Hill: Revelation in 2012. Christophe Gans later returned to the property with Return to Silent Hill, which was released in 2026.
A new project would therefore represent another attempt to translate the unsettling atmosphere of the games into a new screen adaptation.
And this time, the person attached to the project has a considerable history with horror.
The Resident Evil Connection
Lee’s involvement becomes even more intriguing following the release of Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil reboot.
The movie represents a new interpretation of the franchise rather than simply recreating one of the existing games’ stories. Sony describes it as an all-new story following Bryan, a medical courier caught in a horrifying outbreak.
The film opened to $108.3 million worldwide, including a franchise-best $60 million opening in the United States and Canada, according to The Associated Press.
That gives Lee a very recent example of successfully bringing a major horror-game property back to the big screen.
What Could the New Silent Hill Be About?
Right now, there are no confirmed story details.
It has not been announced whether the project will adapt a particular game, create an original story within the Silent Hill universe, or draw from several entries in the franchise.
That’s important because Silent Hill has a particularly distinctive storytelling style. The games are known not only for monsters and disturbing imagery, but also for psychological themes, unreliable environments and symbolism.
A new adaptation could therefore go in several different directions.
Could It Adapt Silent Hill 2 Again?
That’s another possibility fans are likely to discuss.
Silent Hill 2 remains one of the franchise’s most celebrated games, and its recent remake introduced the story to another generation of players.
However, there is currently no confirmation that Lee’s project will adapt Silent Hill 2.
Likewise, there is no indication that the project will continue the storyline from any of the previous movies.
Who Will Direct It?
No director has been announced.
There is also currently no confirmation that Zach Cregger will direct or otherwise participate in the project.
Cregger’s relationship with Lee comes from their work together on Barbarian, Weapons and Resident Evil, but the available reporting does not connect him to the new Silent Hill project.
So fans shouldn’t assume that Resident Evil’s creative team is automatically moving over to Silent Hill.
Geeksterr’s Take
The most interesting part of this story isn’t simply the word “reboot.”
It’s who is attached to it.
Roy Lee has established himself as a producer with extensive experience in horror and established intellectual properties. His latest video-game adaptation, Resident Evil, has also arrived at a time when Hollywood’s interest in game-based movies and television projects continues to grow.
But Silent Hill is a very different beast.
The franchise’s appeal comes from its psychological horror, atmosphere and ambiguity as much as its monsters. A successful adaptation would therefore have to capture the unsettling feeling of entering Silent Hill, rather than simply putting familiar creatures on screen.
For now, though, there’s plenty we don’t know.
No release date.
No cast.
No director.
No writer.
No confirmed format.
No story details.
What we do have is a major horror producer reportedly developing another journey into the fog.
And if this project eventually becomes a movie, the road to Silent Hill could get very interesting.
