Amazon MGM Studios Greenlights New RoboCop TV Series From James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Peter Ocko
The future of law enforcement is heading back to the small screen. Amazon MGM Studios has officially ordered a new live-action RoboCop television series, bringing the legendary sci-fi franchise back with a fresh vision. The series will be led by Peter Ocko (Lodge 49) as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, while horror filmmaker James Wan and his Blumhouse Atomic Monster banner will executive produce the project.
According to the announcement, the series has been in development since 2024 and has now received the official green light after an extended development process. The creative team aims to honor the legacy of Paul Verhoeven’s iconic 1987 film while reimagining its themes for a modern audience shaped by rapid technological advancements and growing concerns surrounding artificial intelligence, corporate power, and surveillance.
James Wan, a longtime fan of the franchise, said bringing RoboCop to television is a dream come true. He praised the original film for being ahead of its time, noting that its exploration of technology, identity, and corporate influence feels even more relevant today. Original RoboCop co-creator and co-writer Ed Neumeier has joined the production as an executive producer, ensuring the new adaptation maintains a strong connection to the franchise’s roots. Additional executive producers include Michael Clear and Rob Hackett, with Danielle Bozzone overseeing the project on behalf of Blumhouse Atomic Monster.
The RoboCop franchise follows Alex Murphy, a Detroit police officer who is critically injured in the line of duty before being transformed into the cybernetic law enforcer known as RoboCop. Since the release of the groundbreaking 1987 film, the franchise has expanded with sequels, a remake, animated projects, comics, and video games, becoming one of science fiction’s most recognizable properties.
