Norman Reedus Joins James Marsden in Apple TV’s New Action Thriller Disavowed

Norman Reedus is heading back into the world of high-stakes television drama, joining James Marsden in Disavowed, an upcoming action thriller series ordered by Apple TV.

The casting adds another recognizable name to a project already backed by an intriguing espionage premise and a creative team with major action credits. Apple TV announced Reedus’ involvement on August 31, confirming that he will star alongside Marsden, although the details surrounding his character are being kept firmly under wraps.

James Marsden Leads a Dangerous Mission

Disavowed centers on Brad Griffin, a legendary CIA case officer portrayed by Marsden. His life takes a dramatic turn when he is abruptly fired while participating in a worldwide hunt for an elusive assassin responsible for killing his colleague.

Instead of walking away from the case, Griffin decides to continue the hunt on his own terms. With a $15 million federal bounty placed on the assassin, the disgraced operative finds himself pursuing the target while operating outside the intelligence organization that once gave him authority and resources.

That setup gives the series a strong combination of espionage, personal revenge and action, while leaving plenty of room for shifting loyalties and unexpected alliances.

Norman Reedus’ Character Is Being Kept Secret

While Reedus’ casting has been confirmed, Apple TV has not revealed who he will play.

That secrecy could make his involvement particularly interesting. With the story revolving around an ex-CIA operative chasing a highly elusive assassin, Reedus could potentially find himself on either side of Griffin’s mission — but there is currently no official information indicating his character’s allegiance or relationship with Marsden’s protagonist.

Reedus is, of course, no stranger to action-heavy television. His long-running association with The Walking Dead franchise made him one of television’s most recognizable action stars, and Disavowed gives him another opportunity to step into a genre built around physical intensity and morally complicated characters.

From the Writers Behind Iron Man and Uncharted

The series comes from Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, the writing duo known for their work on major action projects including Iron Man and Uncharted. Disavowed is based on an original idea from the pair and is being developed as an ongoing series rather than a limited one-off story.

Marcum and Holloway will executive produce alongside Marsden and Tom Spezialy. The series comes from Apple Studios, with Blue Marble Pictures attached to production.

No Release Date Yet

Apple TV has not announced a premiere date for Disavowed, and additional details about production and Reedus’ role remain under wraps.

For now, the combination of James Marsden, Norman Reedus, a $15 million manhunt and the creative team behind Iron Man makes Disavowed one of Apple TV’s more intriguing upcoming action projects.

And with Reedus’ character still a mystery, the biggest question surrounding the series may be exactly where he fits into Brad Griffin’s dangerous hunt.
