Insomniac Reportedly Working on an Open-World Daredevil Game for 2028
The Marvel gaming universe could be about to expand in a major way.
According to a new report, Insomniac Games is reportedly developing an open-world Daredevil game, with the project allegedly targeting a 2028 release. However, there is an important caveat: Insomniac Games, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Marvel Games have not officially announced the project.

If the report turns out to be accurate, the Man Without Fear could become the latest Marvel hero to receive a major single-player game from the studio behind the Marvel’s Spider-Man series and Marvel’s Wolverine.
And honestly, Daredevil might be one of the most interesting characters Insomniac could tackle next.
A New Marvel Game Could Be Taking Players to Hell’s Kitchen
Unlike Spider-Man, Daredevil doesn’t have superhuman strength, web-swinging or the ability to effortlessly cross an entire city through the air.
Matt Murdock’s abilities are much more grounded.
His heightened senses, exceptional martial-arts skills, agility and radar-like perception could give Insomniac an opportunity to create gameplay that feels substantially different from its previous Marvel projects.
An open-world version of Hell’s Kitchen could also provide a very different setting from the larger New York City presented in the Spider-Man games.
Instead of constantly jumping between skyscrapers, players could potentially spend more time moving through rooftops, alleyways, buildings and underground locations while investigating crimes and taking on street-level threats.
For now, though, those gameplay possibilities are purely speculative because the reported project has not been officially revealed.
Why Daredevil Could Work So Well as an Open-World Game
One of the most intriguing possibilities would be making Daredevil’s enhanced senses an actual gameplay mechanic.
Rather than simply using a traditional minimap, the game could potentially allow players to experience the world through Matt’s perception.
Sounds, heartbeats, movement and environmental clues could theoretically become part of exploration and investigation.
Combat could also focus heavily on close-quarters fighting.
Daredevil’s comic-book identity is built around his skill as a martial artist, meaning Insomniac wouldn’t necessarily have to replicate the fast aerial combat of Spider-Man.
That could allow the studio to create a combat system designed specifically around counterattacks, dodges, hand-to-hand combat, billy-club techniques and environmental interaction.
Again, none of these features have been confirmed. They’re simply examples of where a Daredevil game could potentially go if the reported project exists.
Insomniac Already Has a History With Marvel
The report isn’t completely out of nowhere.
Insomniac has already established itself as one of PlayStation’s major Marvel developers.
The studio’s Marvel’s Spider-Man games introduced its version of Peter Parker and Miles Morales, while Marvel’s Wolverine represents another standalone Marvel project from the developer.
Marvel’s Wolverine launched for PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026, giving Insomniac another opportunity to build a Marvel game around a character with a completely different gameplay identity.
Wolverine’s design also demonstrates that Insomniac isn’t simply copying its Spider-Man formula. The studio has approached Logan with a more grounded, close-range combat style and a different type of adventure.
A Daredevil game could take that philosophy even further.
Could Charlie Cox’s Daredevil Be Involved?
This is one of the biggest questions surrounding the rumor.
At this point, there is no confirmed information connecting the reported game to Charlie Cox’s live-action version of Daredevil from Daredevil: Born Again.
That means fans shouldn’t assume the reported game will use Cox’s likeness, voice or continuity.
It could potentially be an entirely separate interpretation of Matt Murdock.
That would actually give Insomniac considerable creative freedom to establish its own version of Daredevil without having to follow the events of the Disney+ series.
What About the Reported 2028 Release?
The reported target is 2028, but that date should be treated cautiously.
The project hasn’t been formally announced, meaning there is currently no official release date, platform announcement, gameplay footage or confirmed story information.
If the report is accurate and development is already underway, 2028 would put the game several years away.
That also means the project could change substantially before players ever see it.
Release targets for unannounced games can move, and development plans can change long before an official reveal.
Daredevil Would Fit Insomniac’s Marvel Universe
If this project eventually becomes official, it would raise another fascinating question:
Could Daredevil exist within the same gaming universe as Spider-Man and Wolverine?
Insomniac has already created a growing Marvel gaming universe around its projects.
That naturally creates possibilities for crossover appearances, references and shared characters.
Daredevil has an especially strong connection to Spider-Man in Marvel Comics, making him a natural character to introduce into a broader New York-based universe.
But once again, there is no official confirmation that the rumored Daredevil game will share continuity with Insomniac’s Spider-Man or Wolverine games.
For now, that remains speculation.
The Timing Is Interesting
The Daredevil report arrives at an interesting moment for the character.
Daredevil: Born Again is reportedly set to conclude with its third season, while this separate report suggests that a major Daredevil video game could potentially be in development at the same time.
If both reports ultimately prove accurate, fans could be saying goodbye to one version of Daredevil on Disney+ while preparing to experience an entirely new version of Matt Murdock in an interactive medium.
That’s a pretty interesting transition for Marvel’s Man Without Fear.

Geeksterr Take
A Daredevil game could be a fascinating next step for Insomniac’s Marvel lineup.
The character has almost everything a modern action-adventure game needs: a distinctive combat style, heightened senses, parkour, investigation, a memorable supporting cast and one of Marvel’s richest street-level worlds.
The real challenge would be making players feel like Daredevil, rather than simply putting another Marvel character into an open-world template.
If Insomniac can make Matt’s radar sense, sound-based perception and brutal close-range combat central to the experience, Hell’s Kitchen could become a very different kind of superhero playground.
But for now, there’s only one thing we can say with certainty:
The Daredevil game hasn’t been officially announced.
Until Insomniac, PlayStation or Marvel Games confirms it, the reported 2028 open-world Daredevil project remains unverified.
And if it does turn out to be real, there’s a good chance this could become one of the most closely watched Marvel gaming projects of the next few years.
